Edge City Films documentary Lost In France releases in UK and Ireland with a special event screening hosted by Glasgow Film Festival on Tuesday 21st February. Simulcast live from Glasgow’s legendary venue O2 ABC, the night starts with a screening of the film, followed by a one-off performance by acclaimed musicians Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), RM Hubbert and Emma Pollock & Paul Savage (The Delgados).

Lost In France explores the rise of Scotland’s independent music scene in the 90’s, led by cult label Chemikal Underground, the Delgados, Bis, Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand, Arab Strap and other seminal musicians and bands.

Lost In France is an Irish-UK co-production funded by Irish Film Board and Creative Scotland and directed by Niall McCann. It was produced by Nicky Gogan at Still Films, and Paul Welsh through DigiCult’s sister company Edge City Films. The film will be released theatrically in the UK and Ireland by Curzon / Artificial Eye from 24th February.

This month two DigiCult Short Films will compete for the Scottish Short Film Award at Glasgow Short Film Festival.

Zachariah Copping’s Foxy and Marina, will play at GSFF on Friday 8th of February.  Foxy and Marina is a lyrical romance about  a young boy , a drug addict , who meets Marina on the day he tries to go home to Skye.

Tom Chick’s Death in a Nut will also feature at GSFF on Saturday 9th of February – “When death comes to take Jack’s mother away, Jack beats him ’til he is small enough to put in a nut and thrown out to sea”. This beautiful production is an atmospheric retelling of an old traveller tale from Scotland.

For the first time, Digicult’s complete award winning catalogue of Scottish shorts is available to international buyers and our new distribution, sales, and marketing executive, Belle Doyle, is attending this year’s Clermont-ferrrand International Short Film Festival Market to promote the films (February 4th-8th 2013).

To celebrate the Scottish talent behind these films, DigiCult has published the first edition of a new market paper where buyers, festivals, and film makers can find information on all the shorts we’ve made over the last four years.

This week Stuart Elliott’s Saved plays Sao Paulo’s 23rd International Short Film Festival (27th, 28th & 30th August). Sao Paulo is the leading event for short films in Latin-America and a very special meeting place where filmmakers can exchange esthetics, political and economic experiences related to shorts.

Congratulations to Stuart and producer Suzanne Reid and everyone involved in the project from Digicult’s Scottish Digital shorts 2010.

Marking a change in direction for the company, DigiCult’s library of award winning shorts has started to pick-up international commercial distribution.

Leading the way in the last couple of weeks, Iain Gardner’s award winning animation ‘The Tannery” has sold to broadcaster SBS in Australia whilst Michael Pearce’s multi-award winning live action “Rite” has sold to Canal+ in Poland.

With Rite and Jessica Ashman’s “Fixing Luka” now represented for World Sales by Spanish agency Freak, the company is pursuing more strategic alliances with distributors worldwide, aiming to push our talent and stories beyond the festival circuit into mainstream circulation.

As DigiCult’s Incubator feature slate takes shape, this sales experience will help prepare the company for its first step into feature production in 2013.
